MRE (Meal Ready to Eat), means that all the contents are fully cooked and can be eaten hot or cold. Each MRE has an average of 1,100-1,300 calories, which replicates the calorie count of a complete meal. There is no need to add water to an MRE. Simply open the pouch and enjoy! MREs are perfect for any outdoor use and/or emergency situation. Their aluminum thermo stabilized pouches provide a long shelf stable without refrigeration. Many private entities, law enforcement, hospitals, fire departments, FEMA, Red Cross and government agencies storage depend on MREs as a part of their emergency plan for food supplies.

MREs are known as 19FD-01-IRATs (Rations, Initial Deployment), and are self-contained field rations that were developed by the U.S. Military for soldiers to eat when food facilities are unavailable. MREs are the most technically advanced food ration in the world. They’re shelf stable, water- and impact-proof, and ready to eat. Because they are intended for soldiers in combat or other high-energy field conditions, MRE STAR are packed with 100 percent of the daily vitamins and minerals required by a person.

The flameless ration heater is the most unique part of the MRE: it allows you to have a hot meal any time, any where, with no stove, fire, or boiling water required. Heck, you don’t even need clean water! Let us explain: the flameless ration heater is a bag which contains a magnesium packet at the bottom. This packet is activated by 30mL of any type of water (from a lake, puddle, snow, etc.), and will generate enough heat for your entrée and side dish.

What MREs do not contain are preservatives. This is because MRE food is retort packaged. The retort pouch is made of a strong layered combination of polyester, aluminum foil, and polypropylene, allowing the pouch to seal the commercially sterilized food ration for long periods of time (USDA, 2012).

The rugged retort packaging also makes MREs highly durable. MREs are impact-resistant, water-proof, and hermetically sealed against pests. That means you can drop them, cram them, submerge them in water, and keep them at a campsite without rodents (or bears) smelling them.

Because they’re retort packaged, MRE STAR won’t expire for at least 5 years.

Each MRE STAR includes a Flameless Ration Heater, which is activated by 30mL of any type of water. That means you can have a piping hot meal without fussing with a campfire, your stove, or boiling water. All food is pre-cooked, so you can also eat it cold.
