Best Glide Spiral Wire Pocket Saw is made in the USA of specially hardened steel. The unique spiral wire design allows cutting in any direction, making it more versatile and more compact than a flat blade. Used properly, it can cut through wood, thin aluminum and bone. This is the original wire saw which has been in useby the U.S. Military for over 30 years.

This is the original pocket saw carried by famed test pilot Chuck Yaeger. Badly burned after being forced to bail out during a test flight at 104,000 feet, this saw was used to cut through his pressure suit’s neck ring to remove his helmet. Lightweight and compact, it can be coiled up into a shirt pocket or easily included in survival and camping kits. The Wire Pocket Saw will cut just about anything including metals, plastics, ceramics, adhesives, rubber, wood and bone. Easy to handle, the Spiral Pocket Saw does not readily cut skin.

Traditionally, Survival Wire Saws have utilized wire strands as the cutting surface. This resulted in a ”good” saw that could cut moderately well through wood, thin aluminum, and bone. The main issue with traditional wire saws is that there are inconsistencies with the way the wires are wrapped. The traditional wire saw does not present a consistent cutting surface and the wire has a tendency to “snag”. This can result in a broken wire, either in the strands where knots and smaller wires form a weak spot in the wire, or the connections to the rings or handles from the sudden shock to the wire when the wire snags.
